Muffin Tops And Corsets: Tyra Banks' Style Tips

01/31/2007 at 05:00 PM ET

After 17 years in the fashion business and dealing with her 30 pound weight gain, this week’s PEOPLE cover subject Tyra Banks has figured out a few key ways to stay looking good. Here are Tyra’s top tips:

1. Give up Super Low-Rise Jeans. “This whole low jeans thing is not a good look,” Banks says. “Even the smaller girls are going to have a muffin top. I recommend a higher jean and darker colors.”

2. Spanx Your Booty. “I’ve got dimples in my booty. There’s nothing wrong with Spanx or control tops. And if you can handle it, there’s nothing better than a corset. Find someone who can lace it up for you, it pushes everything down and up.”

3. A Cinch in a Snatch. “That’s what my stylist Yaniece and I call being locked into the cinched belt. My breasts are getting bigger so if I get loose clothing, it looks too unshapely. You ask ‘Where’s the body?’ Even when it’s out of fashion, wear it!”

4. Let Your Personality Shine, Not Your Clothes. “Women, don’t wear anything shiny or satiny. Those kinds of materials catch the light and makes [you] look bigger.”

hey,i really thiks that she looks good and sexy enough. I have to agree to what she just said in her video..it’s true that most girls tend to go skinny these days, which lead to unhealhty lifestyle.to feel good about yourself, you must be healhty. I really got to say that most celebrities too aren’t healhty, seriously,i really respect Tyra for loving herself.

A REAL CLASS ACT – Tyra has earned my respect and I am so impressed with how she is handlng the tabloid headlines. I didn’t realize how much it makes a difference posture and angles make. Thank you for speaking out, fighting back and not hiding in a bathroom leaning over the toilet or living on lettuce. You speak for many of us who aren’t media targets.

I think she should lose the weight before she gains anymore and die her hair to a darker colour it looks like she’s gone gray. Let’s just hope she doesn’t end up looking like Janet jackson when she was fat. Or become anorexic like the olsen twins.

Amen sista! now with so many girls callling their skinny bodies fat, and starving till there is no flesh left and beyond that. it is so nice to see someone at a healthy weight and proud of it. keep right on eating! you look beautiful!

I doubt Tyra is happy with her weight gain. In fact, I don’t think many people are. I too gained 30 lbs and am terrified I might gain more. Weight gain is unhealthy. I think she needs to worry more about health and cholesterol than the numbers on the scale. I also think many that felt fat compared to her before are secretly happy at her weight gain. People hate you if you’re fat and hate you if you are thin. People are mean.

Tyra is beautiful. There is nothing wrong with her body. She holds herself well and is confident. I’m glad she stood up to the media and told them how it IS. The media is really nasty. They take pictures of you in the privacy of your home or you going to the beach, and they feel they have the right to just snap pictures of someone and then sell them to papers, and then the magazines write hateful comments, whether it be someone is old, drunk, anorexic or fat. The whole idea is to make others feel comfortable in their own skin and not to be like some celeb. We are who we are, and that isn’t gonna change a dang thing. We should learn to accept every flaw about ourselves, but also realize how beautiful we are. Instead of promoting anorexia and bulimia amongst young girls and women today (and even men), we should be promoting healthy lifestyles. Enough of this plastic surgery or diet pill junk. I can stand over on the other side, because I suffered from eating disorders and took so many diet pills just to be perfect and look like what I thought was beautiful. Tyra is an inspiration. I watched her show the other day, and she was discussing body issues with young girls. Can you believe a 9 yr. old girl was worried about her weight, and she was only 50-something pounds? She wanted to be a model, so she would starve herself. This is what young girls are today, even the 9 yr. old girls. Then you have heavy girls being called names, because of her weight. This is no way society should be, some can be so cruel. Until people start accepting curves and natural big boobs, things will never change. We should be promoting healthy lifestyles and promote healthy bodies, whether they are curvy or not.
