Muffin Tops And Corsets: Tyra Banks' Style Tips

01/31/2007 at 05:00 PM ET

After 17 years in the fashion business and dealing with her 30 pound weight gain, this week’s PEOPLE cover subject Tyra Banks has figured out a few key ways to stay looking good. Here are Tyra’s top tips:

1. Give up Super Low-Rise Jeans. “This whole low jeans thing is not a good look,” Banks says. “Even the smaller girls are going to have a muffin top. I recommend a higher jean and darker colors.”

2. Spanx Your Booty. “I’ve got dimples in my booty. There’s nothing wrong with Spanx or control tops. And if you can handle it, there’s nothing better than a corset. Find someone who can lace it up for you, it pushes everything down and up.”

3. A Cinch in a Snatch. “That’s what my stylist Yaniece and I call being locked into the cinched belt. My breasts are getting bigger so if I get loose clothing, it looks too unshapely. You ask ‘Where’s the body?’ Even when it’s out of fashion, wear it!”

4. Let Your Personality Shine, Not Your Clothes. “Women, don’t wear anything shiny or satiny. Those kinds of materials catch the light and makes [you] look bigger.”

I have to send a big thank you to Tyra.

We know as a one time Victoria Secret model your current stance could not have been easy, yet you stand proud and beautiful.

My 10 year old daughter has always loved you in the last few seasons of ANTM and she has no Victoria’s Secret prior image yet of you. She just loves how you POP!!. She loves your show because of you, your confidence and your sassiness.

Thank you for being the role model she realistically can identify with.

Be well, stay strong.

trya is fat. period. F-A-T fat. its embarrassing really, because she is so fat and she plays it off likes shes not. she has rolls and curves in every which place. and then she plays it off like a HUGE DEPRESSING THING has happened to her- by being so overweight. Well, tehre are plenty STRONGER more emotionally secure women out there who are HEAVIER. Maybe Tyra is so insecure because no man loves her. At all.

TYRA!! Thank you, thank you, thank you…I just read your spread in the latest people mag. and I commend you for being one of the few healthy positive role models for females today. You, unlike everyother startlett in Hollywood, has embraced your natural body and not taken extreme measures to look like a skeleton, in which so many young females compare themselves. The sad thing is that someone had the audacity to call you fat in the media…You are by no means fat, overwieight, or any other insane degrading name. You are healthy and curvy and beautiful…and that is why you are wanted sexually by almost every heterosexual male with a pulse…and i am sure lots of females as well;). What man would want a bag a bones as a girlfriend?? Could you please address this weight issue again on your talk show and try to reach out to both celebs and society so females can quit feeling insecure and pressured to be an unrealistic size?? Rock on Tyra!!

I applaud Tyra as well, she says what needs to be said, but did everyone miss little Katy Muma up there who is a teenager at 90 lbs and trying to lose more? Katy dear, you ARE brave like Tyra-you came out and told all of us what is happening to you, and that takes a brave girl. That boy is talking out, well, not out of his mouth, anyway. One less beautiful woman to be bullied by a (young) man who’s a slave to a distorted standard of beauty. Don’t buy into it!
