Muffin Tops And Corsets: Tyra Banks’ Style Tips

After 17 years in the fashion business and dealing with her 30 pound weight gain, this week’s PEOPLE cover subject Tyra Banks has figured out a few key ways to stay looking good. Here are Tyra’s top tips:

1. Give up Super Low-Rise Jeans. “This whole low jeans thing is not a good look,” Banks says. “Even the smaller girls are going to have a muffin top. I recommend a higher jean and darker colors.”

2. Spanx Your Booty. “I’ve got dimples in my booty. There’s nothing wrong with Spanx or control tops. And if you can handle it, there’s nothing better than a corset. Find someone who can lace it up for you, it pushes everything down and up.”

3. A Cinch in a Snatch. “That’s what my stylist Yaniece and I call being locked into the cinched belt. My breasts are getting bigger so if I get loose clothing, it looks too unshapely. You ask ‘Where’s the body?’ Even when it’s out of fashion, wear it!”

4. Let Your Personality Shine, Not Your Clothes. “Women, don’t wear anything shiny or satiny. Those kinds of materials catch the light and makes [you] look bigger.”

Cleaning Your Closet? What To Do With The Looks You’re Losing

Not all your clothes from last year — or even last season — can safely translate into the coming one. So what are you suppose to do with all the leftovers that will never come back in style (think head scarves, skulls and crochet)? Before you begin tossing them in the bin, consider all your options. Featured in PEOPLE’s StyleWatch Febraury issue, our editors found four alternatives to parting with everything you are over:

1. Donate Them: Organizations like Goodwill.org and the Salvation Army will take donations of almost everything. Give your old work clothes to Dress For Success, which collects business clothes for low-income women. And for prom gowns that will never be worn again check out the Glass Slipper Project.

2. Consign Them: For items that are clean and in good condition visit a local shop where you can make 40 to 60 percent of a sale if your item is bought.

3. EBAY Them: Ebay.com style director, Constance White, says to attract buyers “photograph the back and front of your item on a body or form; be sure the photo is well lit and against a plain, light-colored background. Always state if the item is new or used, the brand and size. Finally, note any damage, no matter how small.”

4. Swap Them: Organize your own swap group among friends or check out Swapstyle.com where you can trade with women around the world.

Paris Hilton: Better Sexy or Conservative?

Same restaurant (ultra-hip Mr. Chow’s in Beverly Hills), same week, two totally different looks for Paris Hilton. On Friday, the aspiring actress hit the post eatery with on-again boyfriend Stavros Niarchos in a bosom-baring silver minidress and thigh high stockings. But on Monday, the heiress dressed in a conservative, almost-preppy buttondown and black slacks while dining with BFF Nicole Richie. Is the difference in outfit attributable to the difference in dining companions — hot date vs. girls’ night out? Tell us: Should Paris stick to sexy or conservative?

Scarlett & Nicole Start A Trend: 60′s Printed Dresses

We’ve hit that time of winter where those of us in chilly climates can only dream longingly of wearing summer clothes — and sixties-style printed dresses are at the top of our list. Bright colors — like Scarlett Johansson’s fuschia– and swirling patterns –like Nicole Richie’s baroque flowers — add major pop to simple shapes. Wear them now with tights or bust them out when the weather gets warmer with a great pair of wedges.

Get the Look:

Star Splurge: Get a real Pucci like Scarlett’s from net-a-porter.com, $1380, or try this beaded mini from Milly at bergdorfgoodman.com, $435.

Investment Pieces: Get groovy with a T Bags dress from irissinger.com, $175, or get some flower power with this Rebecca Taylor trapeze from pinkmascara.com, $371.

Style Steal: Get the look for way less with this knit shift from bebe.com, $79 or this bright babydoll from forever21.com, $38.

Get it on eBay: You’ll usually find some affordable knockoffs mixed in with a few vintage originals here. Search for Pucci Dresses on eBay.
