Sundance Must-Have: Neutral Knit Beanies

01/22/2007 at 01:55 PM ET

Besides supporting independent films, Sundance is not exactly your typical film festival. While starlets swan around Cannes and Venice in gorgeous gowns, actresses hit the streets of Park City, UT clad in fuzzy boots, tucked-in jeans, ski parkas — and this year, it seems there is one hat that everyone must have! Stars Keri Russell, Gretchen Mol, Kristen Bell, Sienna Miller and Famke Janssen have already been spotted in cozy beanies in neutral shades from oatmeal to gray. Now this is a trend we can get behind — wearable, weather-appropriate, and affordable! The only question that remains: What to do about hat-head?

Check back every day this week for more Sundance coverage on Off the Rack.

I own one in a beige/cream colour. I love it! You can find really cheap ones at Forever 21 for about 8.50!

They all look as is they threw their grandmothers toaster cover on their head. No style.

i agree w/cynthia as well. go to ANY colder climate and you will see girls dressed the same way. being a ‘star’ has nothing to do w/it. sorry, no ‘trend-setting’ here!

Cute look, but yeah, like other people said, people have been wearing these forever. Its not like these hats are anything new.

What are they talking about? This is no “stylewatchers” trend! This is what you see everyday in Utah! I happen to live in Salt Lake City (about an hour from Park City) and I absolutely love this place for their winters! Ok temperatures are freeeeeeeeeeeezing here, we hit around 15 degrees in the ten amish times… high today probably around 28 …

brrr but you get used to it.

Maybe this is just me, as a 13 year old (I’m a freshman at high school) and I can tell you that all my friends show up in the morning with knit beanies, with matching gloves and scarves with puffy jackets.

No “new style” about this! My friend’s parents and grandparents have been wearing these for years! It’s what you do, you find something stylish to keep warm in! They’re nice and warm though I can tell you!

They’re especially great for skiing and keeping warm on the slopes! Anything to be stylish while warm right?

Note the JLO (god I hate her, hello? fur?!? shame on her) in Aspen with like the 5 inch stilletos, not something you want to do!

Well, it’s a nice trend, wear it to keep warm, and if you’re stylish while you’re at it, hey…

But there’s no “stylish now because the stars wear it” wear it because it’s warm, not to be in the current fashion trend.

Ski Utah! I promise it’s the best snow on earth!

And if you want to wear a beanie while you’re at it, then it’s all up to you

I personally would not wear one but kristin bell look nice in hers, the way she has it laid back

I love the look. Where can I get one besides target?

From an artistic point of view…..these colors are MUTED not NEUTRAL.
Neutral means, it is neither warm or cool in coloring.
And, yes this look is common in the cold parts.

i think that the colors purple and light brown really go together
