Maggie Gyllenhaal: What I Am Wearing to the Golden Globes

Indie darling Maggie Gyllenhaal brings a fierce commitment to all of her roles, and her Golden Globe-nominated turn as ex-convict in Sherrybaby is no exception. The new mother also brings a unique sense of style to the red carpet that we have missed in the past few months. And apparently she has missed it too — she’s looking forward to attending the Globes next Monday because “I want to get all dressed up and go out and really enjoy it.” But she’s still not sure of what to wear, telling PEOPLE “no, not yet, but I have a couple of things I think are beautiful. It’s not hard [to pick out a dress]. It’s fun, just really fun.” Maggie says she is “thrilled and excited” about her nomination, and we feel the same way about seeing her back in the fashion fray.

Madonna’s Roots: Intentional or Oversight?

When Madonna appeared on The Today Show this week, more than a few of us noticed her multi-inch roots — in fact, they were pretty much impossible to ignore! We can’t believe that Madonna just forgot to have them done, and she’s not the first star that we’ve noticed lately sporting some pretty impressive roots. What gives? Oscar Blandi‘s lead colorist Kyle White, who tends to the locks of Sienna Miller and Jessica Alba, tells PEOPLE that “The reason natural roots work, especially on someone like Madonna who is such a style icon, is that it is causal chic — an ‘accidental’ look, which is really done on purpose. When roots are highlighted from the root down, it looks too contrived and put together.” Hmmm. Call us fussy, but we prefer the no-roots look. What about you? Do you like Madonna’s dark roots? Would you wear this look?

Will Heather Locklear Ever Age?

At 45-years-old, Heather Locklear has the same youthful appearance as she did back in her Dynasty days (although thankfully she has left the shoulder pads behind). Not only has she kept her taste in rock stars, but her long blond hair and lithe figure have remained eerily the same — as has her fashion taste. Don’t get us wrong, Heather looks great for any age, but wouldn’t it be nice to see her ditch the trendy togs for a more sophisticated style? We remember how great she looked in suits as Melrose Place‘s resident toughie Amanda Woodward and would love to see her rock a grown-up look once in a while. Tell us: what do you think of Heather’s ageless looks?

Lunchtime Surfing: Halle Berry With No Makeup & Other Clicks

Looks like we’re not the only ones getting excited about the Golden Globes. Over at Buss Buss, they serve up some tips on how to host your own V.I.P. GG-bash, including a recipe for a Tangerini Jolie cocktail. You’ll find even fancier soiree suggestions at InStyle.com, though we think we’ll be too busy gaping at the gowns to eat pigs-in-a-blanket.

Speaking of gowns, the witty Go Fug Yourself gals are just as puzzled as we are about Babel star Rinko Kikuchi‘s red carpet looks. Well, we all can’t be Jennifer Aniston, or have (as PopSugar points out) her perfect breasts.

But, relax, a quick ego boost is just a click away. Thanks to SheFinds for pointing out this incredibly enlightening video, Beauty Brain’s Celebrities Without Makeup. If it weren’t for Halle Berry always looking so picture perfect, we’d almost be uplifted.

And finally, we’ll close out the week with this musing from Celebrity-babies.com. Are stars planting their babies’ placentas in their backyards? Suddenly, our grilled chicken salads seem not so appetizing.

Guess that’s our cue to get back to work. What’s been on your lunchtime surfing menu this week?

So would it be any surprise to see her in yet one more of his frocks at the Golden Globes? We particularly like his silver stunner or his ruffled black number for her red carpet appearance. Or we think she’d look spectacular in this platinum beaded gown by Versace, who she wore so well at the VMAs. Tell us: What do you think that Beyonce will wear? Who do you think will look best at the Golden Globes?

Meet Woman Behind Jessica Simpson’s Highlights

So what do $600 highlights look like? At Rita Hazan’s tony Manhattan salon, they look like movie star hair — luxurious, lustrous tresses streaked with hints of baby blonde, honey and caramel. “I give people what I call couture color,” the surprisingly down-to-earth Hazan told PEOPLE. “When clients leave my salon, they are always photo shoot ready,” she says, explaining why she has such a devoted celebrity following. Best known for dramatically changing the looks of Jennifer Lopez (she’s responsible for those famous honey highlights), a post-divorce Jessica Simpson, Carmen Electra, and most recently, Britney Spears, non-celeb clients travel from all over to see her, fly her to them (at $5,000 a trip) and call her for hair emergencies. Besides the flawless color, the best perk of seeing Rita is that “we wait on you hand and foot!” What’s better than that?

(P.S. You can take a peek inside Rita Hazan’s salon over at InStyle.com.)
