We just can’t keep up: We’ve barely finished breathlessly recounting the details of Britney Spears’ post-divorce makeover, when she — oops! — did it again. The newly single pop star stepped out Dec. 8 in L.A. with newly dark hair, continuing her follicular ping-ponging over the past few months. No word on whether her stylist Rita Hazan — who was responsible for Brit’s short-lived blonde bob — engineered this makeover as well. What’s your take: Do you like Britney better blonde or brunette?

There must be something about over-40 pregnant redheads: First there was Project Runway’s Laura Bennett making the rest of us feel inadequate with her chic, red-lipstick-and-heels maternity style, and now there’s Marcia Cross. The Desperate Housewives star recently hosted the Modern Mom Mingle at L.A.’s Skybar and, at over five months pregnant, she looked smashing. She wore a plum-colored Isabella Oliver wrap dress with a ruffled hem and swollen-feet-defying gold heels—for a look that was fashionable, sexy and elegant. “I find the best way to dress while I’m carrying two other people around is to keep it simple,” Marcia tells PEOPLE. “I like to wear things I can just throw on with flats.” One aspect of dressing that she has changed during her pregnancy? “Cardigans,” she says with a sigh. “I find that I want to cover up. I feel protective.” Sure, she’s not as daring as that other mommy-to-be Tori Spelling, but we think she’s doing this whole maternity thing just right. We’re so used to seeing Mariah Carey in full-on glam mode — big hair, little dresses — that we almost didn’t recognize her on a recent shopping excursion to Dior in Beverly Hills. The singer looks casual and trendy in her wedge boots, skinny dark jeans, and striped henley top. But it is still Mariah — don’t forget the sleek high ponytail, oversize shades, and some major diamonds. On a scale of One being Congresswoman conservative, and Ten being ready for her video vixen close-up, we’d give this look a 4. It’s the most covered-up that we’ve seen this diva in a long time.
