Goodbye Harajuku Girls, hello Disco Fever! Gwen Stefani is the master of creating a signature look for each of her albums, and for her highly anticipated “The Sweet Escape,” she has done it again. Gwen hit the red carpet at the American Music Awards last night in a heavily banged platinum wig, white shorts and a keyhole top from her L.A.M.B. line, and sky-high gold stilettos. Gone is her red lipstick and rockabilly hair, replaced by heavily-lined smoky eyes and nude lips. Of course, she still has her ultimate accessory — hunky hubby Gavin Rossdale. Travel beauty tips used to be about keeping your skin hydrated and your hair tamed — now, it’s all about products that are under three ounces and stocking up on Ziploc quart bags. We’re talking about all the new security regulations regarding liquids in carry-on bags, which have prompted their own terror alert with beauty junkies everywhere. Carrie Underwood may have established herself as a singer, but her image seems to still be in flux. The former Idol hit the red carpet at the American Music Awards last night in a super-sweet, ivory floral-appliqué Max Azria Atelier dress. But during the show (where she won Best New Breakthrough Artist), she performed in a hotpants/bustier ballgown combo that was oddly reminiscent of Demi Moore’s infamous Oscar outfit from a few years back. We’re all for trying out new looks onstage — if you can’t experiment with costumes onstage, where can you? — but we think she looks more at ease and natural in her demure red-carpet look. When you have a voice like that, why try so hard? Tell us: What do you think of her two looks? Do you like Carrie better when she’s naughty or nice?
