What Do You Think of Knee Socks?

For many of us, knee-socks are something we wore with school uniforms as children or now refer to as “trouser socks” that stay hidden under pants. But along with all things 80’s — t-shirts, haircuts, booties– they are making a resurgence as legwear meant to be seen on adults. To counteract any unflattering effects of visually blocking off your calves, be ready to flash some thigh to balance them out. Try them paired with a mini-dress, like Lindsay Lohan (left) or Molly Sims (right), or with shorts, like Kirsten Dunst (middle). Just don’t pair them with a pleated skirt unless you are going as Mary Catherine Gallagher for Halloween. Tell us: Will you try this trend? Are you going to rock knee-socks?

Carmen Electra’s New Dark Look: Love It or Hate It?

The brunette trend is still sweeping through Hollywood, and formerly blonde bombshell Carmen Electra is the newest convert. At a Mohegan Sun party over the weekend, Electra debuted her dark espresso locks, which are a radical departure from the light caramel color we are used to seeing her in. (Her reps confirm that it’s just for fun, not a role.) We have always loved her as a blonde, but the dark hair does set off her baby blues. Tell us: what do you think of Carmen Electra’s new look? Love it or hate it?

Yes! You Can Wear It: Layered Looks

For many of us, the thought of piling on layers of clothes before we leave the house can be a little intimidating: How do we know what will look good? Won’t all those extra layers make us fat? Well, as StyleWatch Online Editor Angela Matusik talked about on CBS’s The Early Show, this look is not as hard as it may seem. Here are a few helpful tips to keep in mind to help you get the Layered Look this season. For how-to-buy info for the clothes seen on the show, click through to the next page.

Layering makes clothes that don’t seem wearable, wearable. See that short tunic on Sienna Miller (near left)? Layering means you can wear something as short as that, even in cold temps, without fear of exposing too much to the cold (or strangers).

Slim down your look with lean, dark bottoms. If you choose to wear something with a lot of volume on top, like Kate Bosworth (far left), keep the bottom half of your look dark and lean. Make sure your shoes or boots are the same color as pants, tights or leggings.

Wear lightweight pieces under chunky knits and wools. Don’t layer chunky clothes over other chunky pieces. Keep your look slim by picking lightweight fabrics, like cotton jersey, to wear underneath. That way you can add color and warmth without bulk, like Beyonce’s cropped blazer (center).
