You asked, We Found: Leggings For Short Girls

09/25/2006 at 01:15 PM ET

PEOPLE.com reader Beth J. wrote in and said: “Ok. I’m finally ready to embrace the leggings trend for fall. But I’m a short (5’2″) size eight and every pair I’ve tried on so far comes up to my ribcage. Aren’t there any brands not meant for a long torso? It would be great if the elastic wasn’t so tight as well.”

Well, Beth, you certainly aren’t alone in this condundrum. A few of us here are short and curvy and have had the same problem. We tested out a ton of leggings currently in stores now, and found that these are the best for comfort and size.

1. Lure cropped leggings, $50 at LisyB.com (left). These are so amazingly soft and comfy, with no pulling at all and just a touch of Spandex to mainten their shape. You’ll want to live in them!

2. Splendid’s leggings, $57, are our runner up (right). They hit low on the hips and are also amazingly soft.

3. Another great brand is Tart, $50. These are a little more stretchy, but not too long in the waist.

4. For a bargain, try Target’s Mossimo Red Leggings. The material is not as soft as the others, but for only $10, the fit is right on!

Coming soon: We also love Jockey’s new No Panty Line Promise leggings, due in stores at the end of September. Click here to find out where you can buy them near you.

I wore leggings back in the 80’s and I don’t think I would ever wear them again!!!

I found GREAT leggings, and I’m only 5’1″… Old Navy has leggings for $10-12 and they’re very comfy and soft, with elastic that’s extremely comfortable and doesn’t dig into your skin at all. They just came out with some new fall ones too, some with lace at the bottom. Anyway, check those out… you can always get them online if you don’t have a store by you. oldnavy.com

I got leggings from Old Navy also, and they are a great deal. Who pays $50 for leggings? Can we be realistic here. Like someone said, get a clue and go to Wal-Mart, lol. Why do we have to shop like movie stars? I don’t care where I get my frickin’ clothese from….jeeze! I am NOT made of money and I’m a budgeter. The way the economy is going we should all learn a thing or two about how we spend our money. I love how some of the older styles are coming out. I also love the wedges…which are the shoes in the first picture. I have about 5 pairs of wedges, and I love the heals in the second, which I have so many diff. types of heals it’s crazy. I don’t know, I spend a little more on my shoes and accesories rather than my clothes. I’m shoe happy. But for clothes wise, I try to look for great deals, because I’m NOT gonna spend $50 almost $60 on leggings.

Leggins $50.00??? ARE YOU CRAZY, WHY ARE ARE YOU RECOMENDING THAT TO US? I LOVE FASHION BUT I CAN’T SPEND ALL MY MONEY ON CLOTHES AND ACCESORIES. HAVE YOU CONSIDERED FINDING OUT THE AVERAGE INCOME OF US, MAYBE you WILL MAKE MORE REALISTIC SUGGESTIONS. RICH PEOPLE DON’T READ THIS BLOG. PLEASE,PLEASE, HELP US ALL AND TRY TO RECOMEND BUDGET-ISH CLOTHES, I MAKE ABOUT $90K/YEAR AND I STILL CAN’T BUY EXPENSIVE CLOTHES. RENT, UTILITIES,CAR, TAXES…THATS WERE MY MONEY GOES…

I’m sorry but why is a woman who is a size 8 trying to wear leggings (at least she is confident). Those ugly calf-length leggings little 13 year olds wear at the mall are so gross I’m so sick of seeing them under min skirts and tunics! The only leggings that are even semi worth wearing are the ones that actually reach to the ankle or heel and in that case you might as well skip the leggings and reach for a pair of skinny pants or even black opeque tights!

All i have to say to this is, leave it to the kids.. Only they look cute in em!

In winter under slacks they are great, or for bicycling on a cool day or just around the house. excellent idea, even guys wear them now for outdoor sports, different cut, but they are still leggings and they are functional. get over the silly stigma girls, and guys.
