No More Skinny Jeans for Kate?

Kate Moss was the center of attention yesterday in London when she turned up to attend an event for Topshop (right), fueling speculation that she has agreed to design a line for the store (loved by everyone from Moss to Kate Middleton). As much as we would love to see a collaboration between Kate and our beloved Topshop, our attention is totally focused on her jeans — specifically, her faded bell-bottom jeans. Not only is Moss always one step ahead of every fashion trend (she was even named “The Trendsetter” as one of PEOPLE’s Best Dressed), but she was one of the first to rock the super-dark, super-skinny jeans (left, in April), making tight, black denim a signature of her style. Now that Kate is wearing light flares again, does this mean that skinny jeans are on their last legs? Which look do you prefer?

Kelly

I prefer the flare leg. She just looks better in them and she is the queen of skinny. I always try to keep an open mind when it comes to the trends each year but there are sometimes when you just gotta say NO! Example: the poncho. I also refuse to wear the skinny jeans.

Jane

Why can’t both styles of jeans be popular at the same time?? Life would be boring if you could only wear one style per season!

Renee Westwood

I feel that the super skinny jeans are not flattering on even the skinniest person.. Even Kate Moss looks like a too fat sausage in a too tight casting.
The faded blue slightly flared jeans actually make her look thinner/trimmer

Mary

I hope the flare is coming back!!! So much more flattering–even on skinny girls.

Kelly

I prefer the flare leg. It is also nice to notice the waistline is a little higher on them as well – a trend I hope will stick! I have grown quite tired of seeing so many bums!

Laini

I prefer the flare. I remember when they first came out in the late ’90s. I like how they look, and I hope they stay around again.

Jenn

The flares look *so* much better.

Jamie

I think the flare legs look tons better! I agree with the first person, sometimes you just got to say no to trends. Skinny jeans are the worst thing ever invented.

Bunky

I thought the whole idea of jeans was that you got to be comfortable and still look reasonably presentable. When jeans start constricting the blood flow, I think that’s pretty much lost. Also it makes them look like sweatpants (albeit tight sweatpants).

Query: why is Kate wearing sunglasses in the picture that looks like it was taken at night, and no eyewear during the day? Maybe along with the skinny jeans Kate is trying to introduce a trend where models bump into things?

beth

SKINNY JEANS ARE NOT HOT! I think that they make 99% of the population look like an ice cream cone: skinny on the bottom and hugely round on top.

Angela

I know that when lots of people start wearing a certain trend, I move on to other things. Who wants to look like everybody else? This is probably what Kate is doing. As soon as everyone starts wearing the wide leg trend, there will be another one waiting for us to catch up on.

sarah

Keeping in mind, the definition of a trend is one minute it’s hot and the next it’s not. The average woman is a size 14. Skinny jeans does not look good on a woman who has more body fat than a woman who is a size 0.
Flared or boot cut style jeans (with a little bit of a stretch) are more appealing on all body types.

Ramona

This is a no-brainer! Flare jeans much preferred. Skinny jeans look ridiculous even on the skinniest people like Kate. The flare jeans at least make her look like she’s got a bit of meat on her bones! Imagine the more realistic average-looking North American in skinny jeans??? UGH!!!!!

J

I like the skinny jean. It is fashion forward, Americans are not willing to take risks. I have worn skinny jeans for years because I like them, I care less of what other people think. But I have and like boot cut and flare jeans just the same. Open your minds people!!!!

JenB

I think I’ll always prefer the flare/bootleg style. Skinny jeans just aren’t as flattering.

tanny

a little flare/bootcut is ok… but bell bottoms nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo if they come back i will flip the f out……

Lisa

skinny jeans are just foul. we need to draw the line somewhere.

Rebecca

And thousands of women across the world breathe a sigh of relief. Ahhhhh. Thank you, Kate! The newer jeans style she has on is so much more flattering than the skinny jeans, even on the very thin Kate Moss. They don’t necessarily look like bell bottoms, thankfully. The more relaxed style looks much more comfy too!

A

I can’t stand the skinny jean trend! They don’t look good on my body and they just aren’t comfortable. And, what’s with leggings too?? Ugh…why don’t we just bring back thong leotard at aerobics class while we’re at it! And sweat bands! Sheesh…Not my thing…NOT comfortable…NOT flattering on me…and if that makes me a “close-minded American” as one poster would say then I think I can live with that. haha!

mialolz

I think skinny jeans look super sexy on skinny people.
Fashion trends should be reasoned with body size before embracing them. There is no pressure! Wear what is right for you. skinny or flare!Jeans rocks…

kristin

The flare leg is proving to be a timeless look which I fully support. I’m always amazed how quickly people jump on the latest fashion bandwagon, only to jump back to the classics a few month later. I agree with Angela – why do what everyone else is doing? I’ll stick to what’s comfortable and what flatters me most!

alison

No to skinny jeans! My friend is a ZERO and she can’t even pull off skinny jeans!

I’m plus and there is no way I would ever put on a pair! I will always, always wear flare and boot-cut. They flatter EVERY body shape, skinny or fat!

Bring shapely styles back! Boot-cut styles are awesome! They are classic!

Veronica

I wish that both would stay in style. However, the flare style more people can pull off. If you’re not super skinny, you cannot pull off the skinny jean without looking like a diamond.

Liz

I’m with the majoity on this one. Why torture ourselves anymore then we already are? It’s hard enough finding flattering tops that hide even the smallest of belly rolls. What’s next…back to rolling up the bottms and putting scruch socks over them. YUCK!!

Christine K

At this moment in time, and in fashion history, I would have to say skinny jeans are chic. I get stared at everytime I wear them, and I must say I feel great in them (though, admittedly, my intake of ice cream has decreased to a great degree).

JUDITH

DEFINITELY THE SKINNY JEANS ARE BETTER. YOU JUST LOOK SEXIER. THEY SHOULD STAY IN. THEY LOOK NICE EVEN ON A SKINNY PERSON LIKE KATE MOSS.

Marcia

I love skinny jeans, and people who say they aren’t flattering are jus no buying quality jeans. They are very flattering to curvy and skinny women. Flare jeans make you look old and matronly, even a sexpot like kate moss. They remind me of granny wear, not something chic and fresh.

denisha

skinny jeans are something that you can dress up with a pair of pumps and have a night on the town.

ames

you should wear what is flattering and what makes you comfortable, and maybe not in that order. fortunately for kate, everything looks good on her. she could wear hammer pants and folks would scream “trend alert!!”

Sue

I prefer the flare leg jeans for my personal wardrobe, but the skinny jeans are in, and they look great on most people. But on me, that’s a different story. I’m a big overweight, so skinny jeans are not for me. I think that Kate looks great in both the skinny jeans, and the flare leg jeans. So I say, just wear whatever you want to wear, whether it be skinny jeans, or flare leg jeans.

scd

Skinny jeans do not look good on anyone, they look to tight. The body looks more balanced with flare leg. When jeans don’t look good on Kate Moss, you know its not a good trend.

Brenda

Wow — faded bell bottoms are back! Am I thrilled or what! Skinny jeans are so uncomfortable when you have to sit down so thanks, Kate!!

JF

I’m all for keeping an open mind. What I am not all for is hopping on the skinny jean bandwagon and sqeezing into a trend item that I know isn’t right for me.

Peach

Yeah… you’d think that if anyone could wear skinny jeans it would be Kate Moss, but seeing them side by side she definitely looks better in the slightly flared ones. Maybe the skinny jeans style won’t last long after all… here’s hoping! :)

Diana

I mean skinny jeans are cute on Kate, however I love those bell bottom pants she has on because they are really cute and makes her look a little more laid back. However, I just hope that if bell bottoms do come back in style it does not get like how some people use to wear them. Super tight on top and then u see this huge flare and no feet. The pair that Kate is wearing though, are HOT.

Shannon

Flare…definitely.

Holly

No skinny jeans for me! I like the flare look a lot better! Comfort is important for me, and skinny jeans just don’t look comfortable to me!

Danielle

I definitely like the flare jeans better. I myself prefer the flare legs as well. I have always worn boot cut or flare legs… even back in the day I would by vintage clothes just to get the look of worn flares or boot cut jeans.

SK

My favorite part about jeans as a fashion staple is that certain styles stay “in” longer than other kinds of clothes. Relaxed-looking, basic jeans always seems appropriate. I was actually just eshopping for some good skinny jeans for myself a few minutes ago. I understand they’re just a momentary trend, but why not have a little fun? I definitely prefer the comfy kind of jeans that you wear just running around, but I think I will try skinny jeans for the heck of it. Plus, I’m sure they would work better wearing high boots over them. It was a nightmare last winter trying to stuff my flared-legs into a pair of knee-high boots!!

lydia

i really like the flare jeans, however i feel that if you wear the skinny jeans you should always wear them with at least 2 and a half inches of heals, otherwise stick to the basic flare jeans. not everyone looks good in skinny jeans but some people do, and kate moss i think looks good in them she just needs the heels

Monisola

The skinny jean is not really a trend. Models and fashion forward types have been wearing skinny jeans for years. I think one must differentiate between the many versions of a skinny jean before saying what is or is not flattering. Personally, I like the stovepipe, which has been worn way before this skinny jean trend. Cigarette legs do not look good on everyone, especially very curvy women. Bootcut are more forgiving, but they also have the potential to look sloppy on shorter people. And may I add that bootcut and relaxed fit don’t always rescue a troublesome figure. The Stovepipe, however, looks good on a wider variety of women. I also think that the stovepipe is very chic and transcends trend. It can be worn with flats a la Bridget Bardot or it can be worn with boots or pumps, with each shoe giving the jean a different character. I will wear stovepipes forever.

Ariel

First- skinny jeans look good on some people who aren’t super skinny, and look awful on some people who are. I’m a size six, and I wear them, I have friends who are size two who wear them, and I have friends who are size ten who wear them. I also have friends of all sizes who, because of their height, body proportions, etc. can’t wear them. Not all people are made alike, even if they wear the same size. Also, not all skinny jeans are made alike- just like flared jeans, they’re all different. So, one pair might look good, one might not.
Second- it’s not like flares ever really went out of style. Lots of celebs wear them, lots of people wear them, they’re still in. So there you go. It doesn’t really matter.
Maybe Kate just wanted a change.

AMP

God I hope so , those skinny jeans are so unflattering, no matter who you are. They should have stayed in the 80’s where they belong!!!!!!!!

Danielle

Even as a 5′7, size 0 girl, I find that skinny jeans aren’t as flattering on me. Every girl needs a little width at the ankle to balance out her frame!

Lisa

I personally prefer flares because they look better on my body style. I could care less what someone else wears. I’m not going to worry about if it’s “in” or not. There are lots of trends that I wouldn’t be caught dead in.

Katie

I have a huge collection of skinny jeans (although they don’t look that skinny on me because I buy them too big)and I think they’re pretty cool. But I think the boot cut is classic. I think they’re always going to be pretty cool.
I think Kate looks better in the boot cut though

Angie

Personally, I think skinny jeans are awful! I guess if you have the body to pull the look off, more power to you, but I prefer the wider leg. I like them better for myself anyway.

Jacki

I love the boot cut but not the bell bottoms. The boot cut gives a person (multiple shapes) a flattering ass and nice thighs without exposing TMI (too much information).

With a great shoe or boot those jeans express class and style.

Skinny jeans just do have the same great shape. The street hooker look is just not classy.

Heidi

Kate looks great in both. Skinny jeans are great for skinny people only. It’s too bad when a trend is only nice for a certain body type. What about all those young girls out there with weight problems and eating disorders? Trends like skinny jeans make those issues worse. Will there ever come a day when the world will wake up and it will be “in” again to look healthy and have curves?

Mel

Please, let it be true!!! Skinny jeans are the worst comeback trend of all time!!!! I can’t wait till they are erased from my memory again!

Michelle

Skinny jeans look unattractive on every person I’ve seen wear them, including Kate Moss. They just don’t flatter any figure.

jackie

FLARE bottoms! I remember the skinny jean (and its infinitely more comfortable leggings) from my youth. I was very thin (wish bodies snapped back wash after wash!) yet look back with disgust at that style. It took me some time to embrace the FLARE leg (mainly because they were only found with pants that showed hair that should not be shown) but the style is infinitely more flattering to ANY figure than the resurrected “skinny” jean. #1-throw skinny out with regard to fashion (no, I am not obese, or even chunky, just pissed) and focus fashion on what is attractive. #2-I realize my ‘fashion sense’ may differ from many, but who out there REALLY wants to relive the days of “skinny” jeans/leggings (whatever body shape)? If you do, will you resurrect pastels too! YIKES, some things are better left in the past!

Cynthia

I have worn skinnier jeans (straight legs) for years, but this trend is ridiculous. I find the super-tight trend of “skinny” jeans sloppy looking on 99% of the population and tacky on everyone, including Kate Moss. Keep the tapered jeans & aerobic wear in the 1980’s where they belong.

Katrina

She looks so much better in the skinny jeans even though those type of jeans arent for everyone!

Stephanie

Skinny jeans are ok. I think they look best with a pair of high leather boots over them. I hope its a trend that fades fast though.

Ainsley

She looks like a soccer mom in those flares!

Danae

I love the flared leg jeans, much more flattering on everyone, including Kate. I think that this picture, along with the Spring 2007 Fashion week are indicators that the wide pants are making their much needed come back!

Laura

There is no way I can wear skinny jeans! I LOVE the flare! Bring it back Kate!

Casey

I LOVE the flare jeans!! I never got into that “skinny” trend because it’s pretty much hideous on everyone.

I’m soo glad i’m finally fashionable again!!! :) Thanks Kate!! :)

Kristen

skinny jeans= a smaller sized MOM jean, they are horrible get rid of them ASAP

Susie

Yeah!! I agree, the flares & bootcuts are my favorites too, the skinny jean DEFINETELY does not look good on everyone & HARDLY ANYONE,

Susie Nelson

Yeah! They’re right, the “skinny” jean is definetely not for everyone much less anyone! I still love the flares & the boot cut. Go Kate….

Heidi

I’m happy to see kate wearing flared jeans!
Skinny jeans for the most part only look good with heals and with the winter slowly approaching it would be a disaster!

Lisa

Thank God!! I hated skinny jeans in the 80’s and nearly cried when I saw them coming back again. I’ll never wear them and much prefer the flare leg!

Karen

Definitely the wider leg jeans look better. They do not detract at all from her gorgeous figure; in fact, they make her look even better. Her waist is still clearly tiny, but now she looks comfortable as well.

Ilda

I really hate the skinny jean. I prefer the flare I am thanking Kate so much right now. The skinny jean is not cute at all, its disturbing to look at not even wear it !!!!!

Amy

I like the skinny. Flare has been around too long. All the flare leg jeans look the same these days. The skinny leg is actually more flattering than I remember and its a change from the usual flare. I think the skinny leg is more sheek and classy. It can dress up any outfit with the right top and heel. It can also be worn casual with a flat or tucked in to your fav boot.

Lori

I was disappointed to see the skinny jean coming back because I don’t think they are flattering at all!!
Thank goodness Kate is wearing her flares again!
I sure hope that skinny jeans don’t take over so that we can’t find flares in the stores. Yikes!!! That would be bad.

heather

Love the faded flares. She doesn’t look like a trendsetter though, more like a person leaving Target.

Kelly

When the skinny pant is unflattering on the ever so skinny Kate Moss, then you know the fade has got to go! I refuse to wear skinny pants, I hate to be reminded of my high school days. They were horrible, fashionably speaking that is.

Krista

I LOVE MY FLARES!!!!! And I will be so much happier if they come back again because then it won’t be so difficult to find them. Flares just cover a wider collection of body sizes/styles.

Alessandra

Skinny jeans! Much better than this “grandma bell-bottom jeans”

Kim

Wear what you want and stop depending on celebrities to say what’s stylish. Skinny jeans, in my opinion are awful anyway. I never understood the fascination with them? To me, they are an 80’s mistake trying to make a comeback. Stick with what flatters your figure.

I think Kate looks more classic in the bell-bottomed jean.

Amy

Skinny jeans are nasty. Go with the blue jeans baby!

RaChEl

Flare, definitely. Much more flattering on everyone. Those skinny jeans don’t look good on pretty much anyone… no matter how skinny they are (like Nicole Richie).

Suzanne

I think if you have long legs and are thin like Kate they look great otherwise forget it. Too skinny and they make you look worse.

Dodie

Flare jeans are way better and totally in style. The straight leg look sucks big time. Come on lets not go back to the 80’s with that look or the leggings those need to be retired forever!

juanitta

Well I am all for the flared jeans, i can’t stand the “skinny” jeans. However even though the skinny jeans are the ugliest thing I have ever seen, Kate does pull them off nicely, but definately looks better in a flare they are much more flattering for EVERYONE not just thin polls.

YOLANDA ROE

KATE MOSS WILL BE ALWAYS HOT BUT, TO FLATTER HER MORE IF POSSIBLE SHE LOOKS BETTER IN THE FLARE JEANS. YOU GO GIRL

lollo

definitely the skinny jeans. so hot.

Diane

Flare jeans look sooooo much better

Marisa

I used to think skinny jeans were just awful, but you have to understand that celebrities and models where a dramatic, over-stylized version of them. “skinny” pants don’t have to be skin tight, they can fit slim while tapering to the bottom and worn with heels can make the leg look longer. I think the great thing right now is that pretty much any style goes; as long as they aren’t bell bottoms flares are a staple style for girls who need to balance out full hips. Boot cut jeans I think are the jean of the season, they’re easier to wear than skinny jeans but keep a similar silouhette.

Norah

Any woman who is skinny and thin can pull of skinny jeans, plain and simple. Curvier woman cannot. I have seen Mariah Carey wearing skinny jeans, and Kate looks much better than Mariah does in the jeans. Mariah (and other curvier woman) should stay AWAY from skinny jeans. And the title “No more skinny jeans for Kate?” she can ware flare AND skinny. Does not mean everytime she wears jeans they HAVE to be skinny. But I would not be caught dead in skinny jeans, I don’t wear things just because celebs wear them. Who cares what the stars are wearing and if they are “in” wear what YOU want!

jen

the style on the right looks best. i can’t imagine them really ever being ‘out’ of style. they’re practically classic at this point, while the skinny jeans arev only a trend. kate’s just lucky enough to look good in ANYthing.

Kelly

FLARE, definitely! We could all use a little balancing out….

KAT

Flare definitely.

Ronnie

I didn’t like them in the 80’s and I don’t like them now.

Jennifer

Definitely the flare. As much as fashion is fun, the skinny jeans don’t really flatter anyone – even if they are Kate Moss. Bring back jeans people can be comfortable in.

Ratsimoan

I think skinny jean shouldn’t been a trend because they great for the fall and the winter when you want to put knee-high boots over your jeans. I know I will still wear my skinny jean even when the trend goes out. I’m not a fan of flare jeans because I’m short and it will make me look even more shorter. But I don’t think Kate Moss retired her skinny jeans, maybe she just like us when get new clothing we like to wear it everywhere.

Meredith

I think she looks so much better in the flare leg. we all know kate moss is stick thin so she doesn’t need a pair of skinny jeans to prove it! She may be slowly on her way to looking like the all-american girl.

Margaux

Yay!!! The return of the flare!

Courtney

Skinny!

liza

THANK THE HEAVENLY SHAPELY GODS ABOVE!!! All curvy girls are breathing a sigh of relief. As a woman who’s shaped like Jennifer Lopez (who by the way NEVER fell for the skinny jean trend) I am so happy that we can be proud of our curves and not feel like we’re too fat to be stylish. Ladies, it’s not about the trends. It’s about what looks best on you. If it looks great, stick with it, no matter what decade it’s from.

jenna

Hopefully, skinny jeans will go bye bye. I don’t think they’re flattering at all. I love baggy jeans…for they flaunt and fit all body types!

M

I Think the skinny jeans are ok. I personally don’t have a pair, but I hate the way they looks with flats and vests. People just gotta wear whatever suits their bodies and wear what they feel good in.

Erin

Super skinny jeans are designed for just that…super skinny women. Now tell me how many super skinny women you see walking around? Yes it’s very fashion forward, but why design and market something that a majority of the female population won’t look good in and pretty much should not be wearing? It will do one of two things: make women who shouldn’t be wearing them think they can wear the super skinny jeans and that they can actually go out in public in them; and two, make these women think there is something wrong with them because they can’t wear them, causing even more young girls and just women in general to think they don’t fit the “standard” of how women should look. Let’s be realistic here people, society has placed enough pressure on women’s appearances.

Ana

This is great – other women like me who hate skinny jeans. Blah! I am skinny and yet I still don’t want to wear those atrocious things. Flared pants compliment a women’s body much better than the tight thing.

micah

i myself LOVE the skinny jeans. i wear skinny jeans and they’re so comfortable. i also think that they are sexier. @ the same time though i love flares. i will wear both. and all these people saying u have to be skinny to wear skinny jeans that’s not true. i wear a size 0 and i wear skinny jeans. i have a friend who wears a size 9 and wears skinny jeans. it’s wat’s comfortable to you.

Elvira

I do love the flare as much as the skinny BUT ‘KATE’ looks much better in her skinny jeans, just take a good look at the pics…and i honestly think that both styles should stay, for people like me who likes to switch it up occasionally!!!! you can’t be the same everyday……

maria sheila pena

I prefer skinny jeans for myself i find it more comfortable easy to carry with the feeling of im not wearing a weighty material because of its slim bottom . The evolution is fantastic having stretchable material and low waist style unlike in the 80’s were u needed help of someone in order to pull the bottom of the jeans out of your feet hehe.

But of course trendsetting is the capability of carying style even its not yet in everyone’s wardrobe. I just adore Kate Moss even if she wears sacks she would look wonderful!

glam

Skinny jeans are easier to pair with a top than bell bottoms. You can even wear t-shirts with it and still look cute. Really versatile. I happen to think they look more elegant and stylish on a woman than bell bottoms.

And look at Kate’s bell bottoms! They don’t fit well and just look terrible overall. I wouldn’t have bought a pair for myself. Plus the icky brown braided belt and the tucked in grey top. Just ewwww. The belt doesn’t even match the shoes. What was she thinking?

Sorry, but high-waisted bell-bottoms are just not for me. Neither are low-waisted ones. Never has been.

Pat Cooper

Not only do I not like the skinny jeans, I do not like the dark jeans unless I’m definitely looking to wear black jeans for a particular look. For all the time wear, I’m into the faded jeans or grey jeans.

Audra

ick… skinny jeans. Blah! Bring on the flare!!!

Liza

I’d prefer NOT to see Kate Moss, period. Sorry fashionistas, she’s not that attractive and her sense of “style” is grossly over-rated. I’d prefer to see a fashion icon who is not an emaciated cokehead with an ever present cigarette dangling from her spindly fingers.

Missy

Even when the skinny jean was in you can still wear the flare. The skinny jean only looks good on super slim people with loose tops

schang

I’ve taken a good look at the pictures… Kate Moss does NOT look good in the skinny jeans. I dunno if it’s just the light, but those jeans… well, look at the knees! and the ankles!
truly weird.
at any rate, skinny jeans just aren’t sensible. Ugly and impossible to wear. Not that I’ve ever tried any on. But look at them!
I laugh in scorn.

fashionistas

faded flares all the way! too tight looks like a yeast infection waiting to happen! laid back sexy roughed up jeans, yahoo!

viv

I think people are quick to jump on the bandwagon of saying that skinny jeans don’t look good and that flares do on EVERYBODY but ultimately it is what you pair with each that makes it what it is. I agree that skinny jeans don’t look good on everyone but that has more to do with personality than size. Some people also don’t look good in polka dots or pointy flats, maybe a roundtoe, kitten-heel fits their personal style better. The point that’s being missed is that one must put together an OUTFIT and one pair of pants, an outfit does not make. A billowing top or a short well-cut dress with flats look amazing with skinny jeans on almost any body type, giving skinny girls shape while also giving curvy girls cover-up—it’s one’s personality that ultimately makes it work.

lula bella

I AM HAPPY TO C THAT SHE IS PLAYING WITH HER LOOK!

I THINK SHE LOOKS ABSOLUTELY STUNNING!:)

Maine

Both gmv. I think those who are able to make fashion forwards and stand out from the rest of the bunch, are the one’s who take risks, and are unique.

Skinny Jeans look good on some and don’t look good on some. I can pull off the Skinny Jean and Leggings too. But I also like to wear the Boot Cut Jeans / Flare Jeans (NO BELL BOTTOMS). I try to mix it up all the time. I’ve always thought that the pant style didn’t matter, to me the cute little top, shoes and accesories are what I like the most.

I love layered effects too, and those cute dresses, like what Mischa Barton is wearing, I just love them.

But please, don’t bring back those Bell Bottoms, ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww, now that is a fashion NOT.

Dee

Flare. Good for most body types.

Branka

all other clothes look better with dark, skinny jeans as they add some definition and boldness, all you need to do is find a right pair..and it doesnt need to be perfect, even Kate doenst look perfect in them, but its still chick

Jen

Sometimes even the “trendiest” things should be ignored by all. Kate Moss looks thin/good no matter what she wears, but without question she looks so much better in the flared jeans. Everyone does. Skinny jeans are neither cute nor flattering.

muck

who cares? wear whatever the hell you want!!! why does whatever kate’s wearing these days have to influence your wardrobe?? she ain’t your mother, you know.

Jessica

You can only wear skinny jeans if you are exactly that…skinny. They are not flattering on anyone else. Bring on the flare! (but not too big)

Lara

i like flare

J.

Go flares!! woo hoo!! (even though I just bought my first pair of “as close as I get to skinny jeans” jeans.)

just my opinion

Personally I dont thing the flares are flattering her, maybe a different type of flares. And the skinny jeans, only select people can pull it off, she does my the way. I on the other hand, I have a pair of bootcut jeans, and thats as skinny as my jeans are gonna get.

Janice Musselman

wow! You just cannot beat the fresh all American look of sea blue jeans, teashirt and beach-blonde hair with a lovely tan … its flipped hearts for 30 years and will probably still be a favorite in another 30 years!

Michelle

I’ve never liked the skinny jean. The only time it could possibly work is on a size 0 with no hips, so the skinny gives her hips. The only reason people stare at people wearing these is because they’re wondering: “What in the world was she thinking?”

The flare, however, looks good on just about any body type, and, when paired with the right top, gives that slight country chic that seems to be so popular the past few years. Thank goodness someone’s finally shedding that nasty skinny jean. Hopefully the leggings will be the next to go.

Korey Thayne

The skinny jeans have to go, the wide leg are much more cuter!!!! No matter how skinny you are the skinny jeans look horrible !!!!!

Nikki

I love the flare jeans much better than the skinny jean’s but then again I HATE skinny jeans and would never wear them.

Megan

Wide legs look good on everyone, skinny jeans look good on no one. You work the equation. Skinny jeans will be out before you can say “Mel Gibson.”

Sandra

I’m just jealous that I can’t wear the skinny jeans & look as fabulous as Kate….

Yada

Skinnies suck in europe, asia, australia and north america. can’t fashion designers do any better than that? pllleeeeaaassseee. give me a flare or boot cut any freaking day and stop wasting our time.

Robin

I never liked the skinny jeans. Kate can rock whatever she wears, and personally I like the way flares look. Long live the fashionista :}

Kim

I grew up during the ’80s. I will never again wear skinny jeans, I hated them then and hate them now. Thank god you can still find flares or I don’t know what I’d do.

MARGARET

FLARE IS ALWAYS THERE. SKINNY PEG LEG JEANS ARE SO TRASHY AND PUNK. THEY LOOK STUPID EVEN ON THE MOST GORGEOUS MODELS. THE FLARE FLATTER WOMAN WITH SLIGHT HIPS AND ARE A HELL OF A LOT EASIER TO GET ON!

G.P

I agree with Missy, Kate is not cute at all, there are so many more cuter models out there, with better styles than her, the skinny jeans are absolutely ugly, especially on her. she looks so ghetto, it looks like something i used to buy at goodwill after i came to this country and had no idea what style was.

Diana B

People, people… you’re all missing the point. Skinny jeans look great on because the person wearing them is saying, “Check out my figure. Isn’t it great? I’m really comfortable and want to show off my body without flashing flesh. I’m confident AND stylish.” And that’s a great thing!

The flares look good on Kate too, but the skinny jean is iconic. Sure, flares are more flattering on most people, but who wants to wear something most people can get away with? Are we all going to start wearing sacks because they “suit all”?

And those of you who think Kate Moss looks like a sausage in skinnies have serious body image problems. Kate Moss is very skinny and can get away with those jeans. That fact that she’s so skinny and all SOME of you can see is fat is a real problem. In actual fact she looks great!!!

Evelyn

Just checking in to say “YUCK!!!!!” to the skinny jeans. They resemble the long leggings of the 80’s–a style that just didn’t want to die and made most of us look horrible.
Skinny jeans and leggings as pants just aren’t flattering.
I can see why a really young girl would want to try a style she missed out on, but those of us who know better are NOT going to spend another season of our lives looking ridiculous.
From a distance, a woman who isn’t skinny, looks like she has a chicken drumstick shape from the waist down in these hideous pants.
I may not have many strong opinions on other subjects.. but IMPEACH the skinny jeans (unless you’re stick straight).

elsa

i would say; SKINNY JEANS FOREVER(!) ’cause i haaate bootcut, i really do!

Vana

FLARE JEANS ROCK! The flare at the bottom off sets hips! Hasn’t anyone seen What not to Wear!

jessica

SKINNY JEANS are so trailer trash, she looks awesome in the high waisted loose jeans.

reena

SKINNY JEANS ARE SO TRAILER TRASH, those high waisted loose jeans are so much prettier

Catherine

I diffently like the flare jeans. I can’t wear skinny jeans and unless you are a model, not a lot of real women can either. Please, Please go with flares again. Get rid of the skinny jean!.

stylemaven

I love this skinny jeans trend! But it is not the only trend in denim right now. We are definitley in a day and age where almost any style of denim goes! I think that Kate is always ahead of her time. I remember seeing pictures in magazines of Kate and a few others wearing the skinny jeans over a year ago. I thought that I wouldn’t wear them, but I went to Target and bought 2 pairs in stretch. They are super-comfortable, sexy, and flattering. I feel comfortable wearing all my jeans right now- from skinny, to boot-cut, to flare.

catherine

the flared pants looks 100x better than those skinny tight looking pants. dont they ever feel uncomfortable?

EA

I think you should wear whatever kind of jeans that you are comfortable wearing. Personally, I am more comfortable in flared jeans. Between those two photos, I would have to pick the flared jeans, but I have seen her rock some skinny jeans as well. It’s all a matter of comfort!

Madison

Kate Moss and Pete perform a duet in Ireland!!!
of course people say she was still high!

Brony

The jeans are by Chloe. Does anyone know where you could purchase them online ? Net-a-porter.com don;t have them. I just adore the flare real 70’s vibe !!

Barlot

Chances are, if you are Kate Moss, you will look good in anything. I do turn into the utmost fashion Nazi when it comes to boys wearing them skinny jeans. Urggh…such a terrible idea when you have a pecker. Way too many chunky-thighed rocker boys squeezing into this trend. As for the ladies, I have seen different sized girls and women alike who have managed to pull the look off quite stylishly. You just need hips however. Flares will always be pretty nice.

Susan

I agree with the 2nd comment by Renee Westwood. Fashion is best when it’s diverse. However, I do agree with the sentiment of many that the skinny jeans really aren’t all that flattering.

Janine

I don’t understand the reasoning behind those that say ’skinny jeans make you look out of proportion’ or ‘make your legs look like cones’…don’t they just mirror what legs actually look like? So following that reasoning, those with bigger legs were born with cone like legs anyway, don’t blame the skinny jeans, BLAME GENETICS.

IMO they just follow the natural line of our bodies, and if you are insecure about your legs and feel the need to diguise them in bootcut jeans, this is the only reason you are against the trend. They’re neither flattering or not so, just separate those who have great legs from those that don’t as they show everyone what your legs ACTUALLY look like.

DivaShop

Thank Goodness! Flares are sooo much more flattering than the skinny jeans. The stuffed sausage look just does not appeal to me.

Miss Elizabeth

Flared leg jeans are gorgeous. Dress them up with a stylish belt and some heels / heeled boots and you’re ALWAYS good-to-go!

ashleigh

I personally like the skinny jeans and the flares, I wear both styles regularly. I think that’s the great thing about the new millenium, we can pull fashions from all decades and styles and mix and match what we like…anything goes these days

jamie

Skinny is nice when boots are worn over them. However as with any fashion trend, go with what works for your body type. If you are shaped like a pear then why would you want to humiliate yourself by following a trend that makes you look extra wide. I personally think that high-waist is gonna make a come back soon. I’ve already seen Kate rocking em. Get ready!

Relo

I personally like them both. I remember a time in the late eighties when no one would be caught dead in flares. Its the same with the skinny jean. Half the peolple who say no the skinny will probablly be wearing them in a year or 2.

bridgett

the skinny looks so much nicer then the flare…sometimes
it really all depends on your body type.

rian

I am thin but I would never wear those skinny jeans. I think they look awful on everyone skinny or fat. The flare jeans look best on most people. This fashion trend and along with the leggings are trends that should never come back. I think people should wear what looks good on them and what they like. I work in the fashion industry and think that people should use wisdom and stop trying to keep up with every fashion trend that comes out because all fashion trends are not attractive on all people.

rhianna

I can’t believe skinny jeans are out- they suit me best then any other jeans and make any outfit look better- not frumpy like bell bottom ‘flares’
I also think its a joke that most shops stop selling them, its like spoon feeding us

Amy

I’m not the skinniest girl on the block, and since I have more of a pear-shaped figure, skinny jeans look TERRIBLE! I am a 100% supporter of the Flare! Behold the power of the Flare! Long Live The Flare! OK, I think I’ve made my point… LoL!

Kate

I love skinny jeans, but with knee high boots, I think they are soooooo sexy!!! Bootleg jeans are fab with boots or shoes, but I hate flares and these new high waisted jeans. They are just dull and horrible. Low waist jeans are so cool and they show off our low back tattoos beautifully.

Linda Dettmann

I’ve been wearing jeans since the 70’s. When the straight legged jeans were popular in the 80’s, I brought men’s jeans because they weren’t quite as “skinny”. I now own about 400 pairs of jeans — all flared or boot cut. The skinny jean thing scares me to death as all my jeans would be out of style, not to mention I hate them! It is interesting how the new stretch materials make one look so much thinner. 10 years ago, all jeans were 100% cotton. The cotton jeans were more comfortable, but the new stretch jeans (and I mean the flares) look better. I think it’s sad that we are at the mercy of the style industry. Fortunately, I have enough flared jeans to last me the rest of my life.

Nat

Maybe all you ladies should stop worrying about what the newest trend is and who is wearing what, and instead concentrate on your grammar and spelling.

Kate Moss looks fabulous in both styles, simply because she is not restricted to what is “in” and “out”.

fashion

it does not matter what style you prefer or should be wearing as they are both as good as eachother. So the skinny jeans and the straight cuts are more trendier and popular at the moment due to this 80’s revival. So what? Wear whatever style you like. It’s not as if you have to wear a certain style of jeans.

robin

what is too fat to wear skinny jeans?
im not over weight but i have a little more than average.
am i too fat for them?

Colette

I think that they are both in. I wear both flare and skinny ( yes I am a size 4, so I guess I am in the minority of those who can wear them) and they look great. She looks better in flare, IMO.

Helena

I personally LOVE the skinny jean. I find the fit is the most comfortable, it hugs my body and doesn’t cut across my movements. Because i am short, i find skinny jeans are the ones who frames my body structure best, whereas flare jeans emphasizes my petiteness. That is for me; everyone has a different body, so everyone will come across denim preferences.

rachel

ok….kate is NOT wearing a flare leg. its a wide leg. lets get that straight.

modEL:P

SKINNY JEANS RULE!!!! i dunno what the losers on here are saying! probably jst coz ur fat and jealous :D go HELENA U RULE!!!

Carol camp

I think the trick is what you wear with the skinny jeans.. Some people just don’t know how to dress.. Skinny jeans may not look good on a bigger sized lady, but I am small and I love them. Finally I get to wear boots that can be seen over my jeans, and the biggest blunder of all, is if you dont want to look like a lampshade, be sure your shirt or sweater is long, not just to the waist,, get a tunic or long shirt,, with a belt maybe.. great look.

Krissy

The flared jeans. I do absolutely LOVE skinny jeans, but i prefer a flared leg because they are not just a trend.

A bootcut is perfect in my opinion!

sky

I love skinny jeans and am happy to say they look good on me im a size oo

katie

i think she looks much better with skinnies on they look sexy and shows her figure off but the baggy jeans looks bad on her.. it doesnt show her figure x

j.s.

I’m a jeans fanatic. I love all types of jeans, except really big bellbottoms. I decided that only 4 brands of jeans look good on me. I think that’s the problem of many women: They never really find out what looks good on them.

I realize that with my hips and bum, not every jean will flatter me. It’s all about the brand, really.

j.s.

Also, skinny jeans are great for tucking into boots in the winter, so they’re always practical.

suzzi

if youve got a slim figure, baggy jeans, unless theyre real good quality and good fit are gonna make you look like youre a stick wearing a sack. im a size 7 and i love straight legs and skinny legs because they show that for a skinny person i actually have a curvy arse and that i have slender legs. i have some wide legs which are nice coz they are tight around the arse and hips and also flares which are hot coz they emphasize a feminine figure. those of you who think skinny legs arent flattering on anyone must be thinking of how they dont flatter your legs and bums, coz i think if you have the right body, heels and the right top and accessories, skinny-legs look hot.

Haedn

geez. i’m from the uk and everyone here wears skinny jeans. if you are over a size two you can’t wear them. plain and simple. but i think they look great as long as they arent skin tight. miss moss is a style icon because she’s willing to take risks. . .something 99 percent of people arent willing to do.

isabella

as long as you’re not fat, skinny jeans do look better, their super cute, and just look so neat with little flats, i mean, bootlegs or flares look TERRIBLE with little shoes.
kate looks better in skinny pants.

justanotherchic

skinny jeans are THEE jeans of today and throughout the 00’s.
they’ll be around for a few more years atleast!
Bright 80’s inspired acid colored skinny jeans have just started to appear i.e. red, white, purple, blue etc..
You can see some nice red skinny jeans in the Kate Moss Collection which has just come out.

woot

flare a timeless look??? Are you people serious? Just because you don’t have teh body to pull it off doesn’t mean skinny’s are bad. if anything..skinny jeans are timeless…they are not a trend…they have been a rock and roll classic since the 60s. Remember Audrey Hepbourne? Who rocked the black skinnys if not her? Skinny jeans are a classic that people should not be afraid of.

get over it jealous people!

Julie

I think that she can pull off both types of jeans. She would not be wearing the larger jeans if they weren’t high waisted or she’d look so very much last year. The skinny jeans are hip and trendy. The wide legged, high wasted jean is coming back into style – just look at Vogue. I’ll be happy when the skinny jean goes out of style so i can feel original again.

Wallis

A like Skinny Jean they look much nicer if u are going out some where posh. But a Must say a dont like flares. Mon the Baggy Jean!!!!!!!!! They are just so comftable and look good.

KaB

stop worrying about trends. focus on what you like, and thus, you will look good. when you feel good, you look good. skinny jeans rock. hippie jeans are for hippies. kate moss is sexy.

Anita

straight legs forever! whenever i see people wearing the more relaxed bell bottom fit… it looks all baggy!.. it only looks good if it is fitted in the thigh and butt and worn with heels!… not with sandals and flats people!

Suzy

I have both types of jeans and they both look good. I’m not super skinny, just slim but for comfort, I prefer my boot cut or straight leg jeans over my skinny jeans anytime of the yr.

CaROIiNe

I’m french, sorry for my english…. I love skinny jeans, in france it’s call ’slim’ it’s so beautiful i think, especially on Kate… The skinny is more for the girl who are very thin, slim…It’s not always beautiful, it’s difficult to wear a skinny… The flare is beautiful too, but i prefer the kate’s style in skinny…

becky

I really like skinny jeans… it took me some time to get used to them but I’m really in love now.
Kate moss does NOT look fat in them
