No More Skinny Jeans for Kate?

Kate Moss was the center of attention yesterday in London when she turned up to attend an event for Topshop (right), fueling speculation that she has agreed to design a line for the store (loved by everyone from Moss to Kate Middleton). As much as we would love to see a collaboration between Kate and our beloved Topshop, our attention is totally focused on her jeans — specifically, her faded bell-bottom jeans. Not only is Moss always one step ahead of every fashion trend (she was even named “The Trendsetter” as one of PEOPLE’s Best Dressed), but she was one of the first to rock the super-dark, super-skinny jeans (left, in April), making tight, black denim a signature of her style. Now that Kate is wearing light flares again, does this mean that skinny jeans are on their last legs? Which look do you prefer?

The skinny jean is not really a trend. Models and fashion forward types have been wearing skinny jeans for years. I think one must differentiate between the many versions of a skinny jean before saying what is or is not flattering. Personally, I like the stovepipe, which has been worn way before this skinny jean trend. Cigarette legs do not look good on everyone, especially very curvy women. Bootcut are more forgiving, but they also have the potential to look sloppy on shorter people. And may I add that bootcut and relaxed fit don’t always rescue a troublesome figure. The Stovepipe, however, looks good on a wider variety of women. I also think that the stovepipe is very chic and transcends trend. It can be worn with flats a la Bridget Bardot or it can be worn with boots or pumps, with each shoe giving the jean a different character. I will wear stovepipes forever.

First- skinny jeans look good on some people who aren’t super skinny, and look awful on some people who are. I’m a size six, and I wear them, I have friends who are size two who wear them, and I have friends who are size ten who wear them. I also have friends of all sizes who, because of their height, body proportions, etc. can’t wear them. Not all people are made alike, even if they wear the same size. Also, not all skinny jeans are made alike- just like flared jeans, they’re all different. So, one pair might look good, one might not.
Second- it’s not like flares ever really went out of style. Lots of celebs wear them, lots of people wear them, they’re still in. So there you go. It doesn’t really matter.
Maybe Kate just wanted a change.

God I hope so , those skinny jeans are so unflattering, no matter who you are. They should have stayed in the 80’s where they belong!!!!!!!!

Danielle

Even as a 5′7, size 0 girl, I find that skinny jeans aren’t as flattering on me. Every girl needs a little width at the ankle to balance out her frame!

Lisa

I personally prefer flares because they look better on my body style. I could care less what someone else wears. I’m not going to worry about if it’s “in” or not. There are lots of trends that I wouldn’t be caught dead in.

Katie

I have a huge collection of skinny jeans (although they don’t look that skinny on me because I buy them too big)and I think they’re pretty cool. But I think the boot cut is classic. I think they’re always going to be pretty cool.
I think Kate looks better in the boot cut though

Angie

Personally, I think skinny jeans are awful! I guess if you have the body to pull the look off, more power to you, but I prefer the wider leg. I like them better for myself anyway.

I love the boot cut but not the bell bottoms. The boot cut gives a person (multiple shapes) a flattering ass and nice thighs without exposing TMI (too much information).

With a great shoe or boot those jeans express class and style.

Skinny jeans just do have the same great shape. The street hooker look is just not classy.

Heidi

Kate looks great in both. Skinny jeans are great for skinny people only. It’s too bad when a trend is only nice for a certain body type. What about all those young girls out there with weight problems and eating disorders? Trends like skinny jeans make those issues worse. Will there ever come a day when the world will wake up and it will be “in” again to look healthy and have curves?

Mel

Please, let it be true!!! Skinny jeans are the worst comeback trend of all time!!!! I can’t wait till they are erased from my memory again!
