Gwyneth's Sexy After-Baby Girdle

09/08/2006 at 11:00 AM ET

Leave it to Gwyneth Paltrow to make wearing a girdle sexy. As her alternative birthing guru, Dr. Gowri Motha, reveals in this week’s issue of PEOPLE magazine, Gwyneth has relied on Agent Provocateur’s waist-cinching Postnatal Control Brief, $120, to help her hide those extra pounds she’s still carrying after giving birth to her second child, son Moses, in April. But this undergarment isn’t like anything hanging in grandma’s closet: With red satin detailing and detachable suspender straps (the better to wear with sexy thigh-high stockings) it’s sure to help shape your body — by getting your heart racing! (Note: It’s currently out of stock, so you’ll have to be patient if you order one!) — Galina Espinoza

I was mainly looking for a place to comment about Lindsay Lohan’s bag drama in a London airport. I was just disappointed that the thief did not take the ugly hat Lindsey was photographed wearing instead of her purse!

Wearing a girdle may make you look great at the time but it makes your stomach/butt/thigh muscles flabby and dependent on the girdle. It would have been better if she just sucked it up for a few months and had flab and fat while she worked it off and toned her stomach down again. Actually, as a new mom, when I saw the title of this post I was all excited because I thought it was some special exercise program to tone the areas damaged by childbirth… guess I was wrong!

yuckkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk…if ya wanna look as though you’re a few pounds lighter, go to the gym or exercise and actually be a few pounds lighter! don’t go to the band-aid solution of wearing something to hold your curves in…your body is your body…if you want it tighter or loser, do that the natural way through food and exercise…this girdle thing is stupid…its like that infomercial for that pantihose that “sucks in your fat”…pure rediculous…

ONCE AGAIN….Do we really need to know about what the stars wear for undergarments?!?! For God’s sake, show some respect!

Girdles…I didn’t even know what one of those looked like. Now I do. Hopefully I won’t ever have to wear one. They look so uncomfortable and so tight….

It is exactly like grandma’s. Have you not looked at old support garment adds. This just shows that the older cuts are still the best. Even the Sears catalogues still have girdles like this in the oldlady section. Give me a break.

Come on people… It is strictly about new moms we are talking about! When you feel overtired and overweight. This is a quick fix for those first weeks: when you can’t exercise and actually would like to feel better about yourself! Anyway, in Europe the doctors recommend it so that the organs and all get back where they belong… When I had my baby I tried wearing one, I could not stand it for more than 5 minutes. They are VERY UNCONFORTABLE. And yes, I agree that the best solution is diet and exercise, always!

I hate the way a girdle doesn’t have high legs on the side. it cuts right into your leg and hurts as you can see from the pic, the flesh is pressed on the side of the leg. They threw a red ribbon on this sucka to call it sexy. No way! GRANDMAish !!

As if Gwen would tell someone she was wearing this contraption. I find it a good way to sell a product though especially if you want your butt to look like a piece of cardboard!

Girdles rock! It helps your stomach bounce back faster after you have a baby. That and breast feeding. We all need all the help we can get!

Grandma was a pretty young lady once, and she was even prettier than today’s young ladies in her girdles and all. Girdles make a huge difference, fabulous under the tightest pencil skirts for instance. You get used to them in about two weeks, after a couple of months you don’t mind at all, after a year or so you will actually love wearing your girdle and what is does for you. I think that the girdles with suspenders for stockings are the prettiest of all, a lot of men love them too , especially the vintage girdles! |The biggest secret is getting one to fit you exactly, then it can be comfy with fab support and looks.

Just like a bra a girdle requires training in, after that you will never look back.

For it will mould and shape you into a Hollywood goddess.

Now isn’t that worth the effort ?

I love my girdles, what they do for me – so do the men !

Note to all the the mother earth types commenting here… Just for fun I bought a rear lifting girdle and wore it under tight slacks and you could NOT believe the difference! My boyfriends all loved the hot new look and told me they just love how it feels too. I have bought 3 more since the rave reviews and continue to get positive input. My boyfriends all think it is super sexy. Your logic about ‘get in the gym’ comments are just defenses of your misguided beliefs. Why do you wear a bra? Girdles were relegated to the fashion heap in the 70s but as in all ideas, they are making a comeback whether you are open minded or not. By the way, I am 5’7″ 130 lbs so I am not wearing out of ‘necessity’. It is just sexy, especially with full fashioned nylons. I don’t do the cheapskate immitation rubber top thigh highs thing, real nylons only.

Pantie girdles are perfect to wear for a special occasion dress or big night out. Yes it requires disipline to wear them but they do improve posture.
In the sixties and seventies they were “de rigour” and needed with wearing the high fashion and elegent fashions of the time.
I am not one to use them to hide flab or would use them if overweight and had a “spare tyre”. Overweight women gave girdles a bad reputation. They became associated with negative attributes. A girdle can make a good figure look even better. Try on with a dress and se the effect and difference it makes. To get the right fit and size is important. To say that men hate girdles is also rubbish, I know men who find them sexy. I never liked the ugly long legged american girdles on sale. English and continental europe girdles were always more elegent better cut (more comfortable)and had more eye appeal. In england Marks and Spencer were and are doing very well with girdle sales.
I remember just a few days before Christmas in the 90’s going in to buy a particular navy panty girdle to M&S that I wanted and had seen the day before. Guess what? all were sold out and in other colors too. Sold out because at Christmas there are these special occasions, and women like that bit of extra help to look good.
But it is harder to find a girdle that is pretty these days, the version here is not so.
