Would you wear it? Skinny Jeans

09/06/2006 at 05:46 PM ET

Skinny jeans — just the words alone seem to strike terror into the hearts of many women, but as it says in PEOPLE’s Fall Stylewatch issue, anyone can wear them — honest! Contrary to popular opinion, this look is not just for the waifish and slim of hip/thigh/butt. Within the skinny jeans world, there are a variety of cuts, lengths, and widths of the slim styles that can flatter any body type. And remember, it is all about proportion so consider wearing a longer, looser top with tighter jeans to balance yourself out.

1. If you are more petite, try a cropped style (like the J. Brand jeans, right) that really shows off a hot pair of heels.
2. If you are curvier, try a pair that scrunches around your ankle, which creates the same slimming illusion as a pair of bootcut jeans (see Kate Beckinsale, left).
3. If you want to make your legs look endlessly long, try a long pair of jeans pulled down over super- high heels.
4. If you don’t want to invest in designer options like the celebs, everyone from Target to the Gap is offering the look for less.

Tell us what you think: Do you like skinny jeans? Is this a trend you will try this fall?

I bought a pair this summer from express and I wear them all the time! I can’t believe more people are not wearing them yet. They are actually pretty comfortable.

Well I guess I’m a moderate on the skinny jeans thing. I’m not crazy about them, but I do like to look fashionable. I’m not giving up my bootcuts especially since I love knee high boots and so far all of the skinny jeans I’ve tried tucking into them just look silly on me. I’m 5 foot 2 and very slim so even the “ankle” ones from Express look long on me. I’m not into tunics and belts so haven’t figured out what to wear with them. Any advice anyone?

I am 5’2″ and have a size 8 shoe. I look like a circus clown in skinny jeans! Low rise, wideleg jeans are the best thing that ever happened to me. Don’t take them away!!!

Hell No. These will be flattering for maybe 20% of the US population. Just another gimmick to get you to may more money for jeans after the whole $200 per pair campain last year!

Try giving the baby some acidophilus. I’d try a little OTC cream for yeast infections. You’d be surprised at how many skin irritations are from a yeast overgrowth.

I grew up in the 80′s & the “Skinny” back then were awful. The fasion industry has taken a huge step back with this trend. Why can’t they come up with something original? If i am going to pay $100-$200 for a pair of freakin jeans they better fit my body & not look like i am pouring myself into them. I guess since they are making skinny jeans now i better get in line to buy parachute pants.

i will not be wearing any of these jeans. they would hug places that don’t need any hugging! Not for me!!! More power to those of you who can wear them!

I do not care for the skinny jeans, for one I dont want to see someone over weight wearing them. But at the same time I think Hollywood is pushing people to get skinny and in alot of cases that goes to far…. And they look painted on. No thanks

Skinny jeans are tricky but they can be a fun piece to add to a funky outfit. For me, a petite thinnish girl, they are a very cool urban look. Some girls don’t want an edgy look which is A-O-K, that’s why there’s flare, straight, and bootleg cuts out there too. But, I find it funny that these same people are posting on a message board about style – try having an openmind. I thought I’d have to be pin-thin for them to look good and I was wrong.

For those who say it would have been a fashion don’t last season and seasons before, skinny jeans/drainpipe jeans/tapered jeans were hitting it big elsewhere like in London and Tokyo. We Americans are just now catching up.

Fashion is cyclical and meant to be fun, so if you’re having fun with a look, then who cares. It’s all about balancing different styles, cuts, colors, shapes, and even pricelines to come up with your own unique version of what is current. I think the absolute must to wearing anything that makes a statement is having the right confidence to pull it off.

I like the skinny jeans. To each their own. On some it looks good, on others it doesn’t look good. That’s the best thing about choices, we can choose any type of jean to our liking. I personally like to wear skinny jeans with flat ballerina type shoes and sometimes to make it funky I wear thin heal shoes. I also wear a loose top with no jewlery. I’m a funky dresser. I’ve been told I have really good fashion sense. I am my own person. I don’t follow the celebrities. I wear what I feel is comfortable and is to my liking. I def. like to mix things up and be different, but NOT hideous looking, lol. All women are beautiful and no matter what we wear it will always compliment us. We all have different types of styles. I would never put anothers fashion sense down. As I say, to each their own.
