Would you wear it? Skinny Jeans

Skinny jeans — just the words alone seem to strike terror into the hearts of many women, but as it says in PEOPLE’s Fall Stylewatch issue, anyone can wear them — honest! Contrary to popular opinion, this look is not just for the waifish and slim of hip/thigh/butt. Within the skinny jeans world, there are a variety of cuts, lengths, and widths of the slim styles that can flatter any body type. And remember, it is all about proportion so consider wearing a longer, looser top with tighter jeans to balance yourself out.

1. If you are more petite, try a cropped style (like the J. Brand jeans, right) that really shows off a hot pair of heels.
2. If you are curvier, try a pair that scrunches around your ankle, which creates the same slimming illusion as a pair of bootcut jeans (see Kate Beckinsale, left).
3. If you want to make your legs look endlessly long, try a long pair of jeans pulled down over super- high heels.
4. If you don’t want to invest in designer options like the celebs, everyone from Target to the Gap is offering the look for less.

Tell us what you think: Do you like skinny jeans? Is this a trend you will try this fall?

Shopping Alert: Abaete for Payless

Hot designer creates line for mass retailer — it’s the big idea in fashion right now (has everyone bought their Paul and Joe yet?) But until now all of the high/low designer shoe lines have still had designer price tags on them, like Tara Subkoff for Easy Spirit and Vivienne Westwood for Nine West–gorgeous, but still hundreds of dollars. As of today, Payless and Abaete, designed by hot NYC designer Laura Poretsky, have gotten it right- amazing shoes for $20- $45. That’s right, those droolworthy suede Sky boots (left) are only $45 and come in brown and black suede. Need new pumps? Check out the hot spectator style Oliver pumps, $25. And the super-cute Casey Flat (love it red with black patent bow!) is only $20. What are you waiting for?

Trend Worth Trying: Mocha Dresses

Sometimes, gorgeous and stylish minds think alike. Eva Mendes, Beyonce and Halle Berry have all stepped out recently in cafe au lait colored jersey dresses that cling to their curves and set off their skin tones beautifully. The best part is that this color is universally flattering, setting off any skin tone from super-pale to super-dark. So not only do they get to look gorgeous, but they get a comfy dress in the process. You can even take this look into fall by layering a t-shirt underneath or adding a cardigan on top.

Want the look too?

For a Splurge, try T-bags at Active Endeavors, $150

For a Steal, try Old Navy, $30.

What’s Up With That? Mischa Barton’s Shorts

Mischa Barton is the rare fashion risk-taker who can pull off almost any look — Skinny Jeans, check! Ankle boots, check! Diaper shorts. . . Hold on. What are those things? Puffy and patterned, they look like Pampers by way of Bedrock. And pairing them with a cropped men’s undershirt to reveal jutting hip bones doesn’t make them any better. We say: Ditch those baggy britches! Do you agree? Let us know!
