How to Dress Like a (Future) Princess

In this week’s PEOPLE magazine, you can see how Prince William’s girlfriend Kate Middleton’s style stacks up against his much-missed mother. As it turns out, Kate might be dating a Prince, but at least her wardrobe is achievable. Last week, she partied with Prince William and Prince Harry at the exclusive, member-only Cuckoo Club in London wearing an indigo flower print jersey dress from Topshop, a British store that is like H&M but better, costing only £38 (or $72)! A Topshop spokesperson confirms that “she often shops in Topshop.” The dress was in stores back in July and was so popular they have a mustard version out for Autumn/Winter. (Sadly, Topshop doesn’t ship to the US, but there are rumors that it is opening in New York next year.) Although, the fairy tale comes crashes down with her accessories — she was carrying a Mulberry Angelica bag in fuschia, which retais for £250 or $475. The fairytale always has to end, doesn’t it? — Monique Jessen

In my opinion, I believe Princess Di (whom I still miss very much) would be proud of Prince Williams choice of girlfriends. Don’t you think these two women would have enjoyed shopping together? Kate already looks like a Royal.

She has a head on her shoulders and a beautiful face to go with it. I hope all goes well.

Shes got natural beauty. She doesn’t need gowns that cost the same as first year tuition to an Ivy League school to look gorgeous! I think Princess Di would be so happy for Prince William.

Kate Middleton is amazingly hot! She has great taste in clothes, a super sexy body and one of the best smiles anywhere. I’m completely smitten and totally jealous of the Prince, but I give him props for have outstaning taste in women. I hope to see many more pics of this future princess!

That BCBG gown is gorgeous but does not cost $675 ! I bought the exact dress for my daughter, paying full retail price at $335(which I thought was alot!). Maybe this is a testimony to the cost of living in England.

Kate is young and pretty but I think People Magazine is jumping the gun. There is no official announcement yet of an engagement and I think Miss Middleton is overhyped–Diana had more going for her than being a clothes horse. Kate is still an unknown commodity–she hasn’t even gotten a job or done anything with her Uni degree for over a year. If dating a prince is criteria for a huge amount of coverage, then we should hear more about Chelsy Davy who dresses just as well as Kate and is just as pretty. And I’d like to hear more about the real Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie.

She looks and dresses like a 40 year old woman.
She’s hot??? NOT!!!

- TB on

Chelsy Davy is hot and dresses her age.

I cringed when I saw side by side pics of the late Princess Diana in “similar” outfits to Miss Middleton. First of all, I don’t remember Diana wearing the low riders and too tight dresses that Kate is pictured wearing. Secondly, it is unfortunate that for some reason Kate is being so aggressively overhyped by some magazines like People. There is no comparison with the late Princess Diana and unfair to Miss Middleton who actually might not end up being married to William and a Princess, there is no engagement or anything official. There was a lot more to Princess Diana than dressing up and parading around–even while she was dating Prince Charles she worked for a living and had some actual charm to her and did more than pose in dresses and gowns for magazines. Kate Middleton seems to just be a clothes horse with very little personality thus far. I’m wondering why she hasn’t gotten a job after graduating from Uni in June 2005 and more to the point, why is she being so aggressively sold by the media like a commodity. More coverage of Chelsy, Bea, Eugenie and Zara please.

Kate doesn’t dress well nor does she do anything else well aside from wait around for William to decide she is more than a thing to be used as a press diversion. She has no job, she doesn’t use her education and she dresses like she is in her late thirties.

I completely agree with you Sandy.
Kate “missperfectkins” Middleton is NOTHING like Diana… Diana did not court publicity (in the beggining at least) and try to be someone just so she could get a ring. Diana was lovely, beautiful and regal inside and out… it was her actual personality that won over people all over the world. Not what she wore (although that was also another incredible aspect to her)… she had class and excellent fashion sense naturally. She did not have to hire a stylist to wear the same darn old sun dress or wrap dress in different colors OVER and OVER again.

I am so over the overhype of Miss Middleton… I would actually respect her if she actually used the so called “level head” she is supposed to have and got a JOB!
