A Tale Of Two Shoes: How I Survived Emmy Night

My first Emmys and all I can say is thank god I listened to veteran PEOPLE reporter Marisa Laudadio who insisted I bring a pair of ballet slippers with me to the awards!  I was planning to wear my 4 1/2 inch YSL pumps ($495, but bought on sale in Honolulu, but you can check eBay). But when our driver got to the Shrine Auditorium, he realized he didn’t have the right parking pass to get us to the entrance. With only 15 minutes to make it to our seats, our only hope was to sprint OVER A MILE to the theater. So I whipped out the ballet flats (luvmyflats gold leather ballet shoes from Nine West for $49) and started booking down broken sidewalks and Hardee’s parking lots. My Versani 18k gold and diamond earrings ($1,800 loaners—thanks guys!) and my $99 black Andalousy Satellite Paris necklace and $120 Jeanne Nicole lariat were flying everywhere. But thanks to my rubber-soled luvmyflats and my stretch taffeta frock ($410, Nicole Miller), the toughest thing about that mad Emmy dash was trying to breath through fits of hysterical laughter while hauling some serious ass. — Anne Marie Cruz

What Would You Buy Cameron Diaz for her Birthday?

Today is the newly brunette Cameron Diaz’s 34th Birthday! Some stars you have loved for so long, you feel as though you know them. So, we have a few ideas on what we would give Cameron for her birthday if, you know, we were actually friends with her. Justin — feel free to take the credit on any of these.

Here are our picks for the birthday girl:

1. August’s birthstone is Peridot, so how about these vintage style earrings? The delicate white gold would stand out against her dark locks.

2. For the next time she goes Trippin’, she can use this adorable new passport holder and these super bright luggage tags.

3. If she misses Justin while he’s off promoting his new album, she can watch his videos on this video iPod and text him on her Sidekick.

4. Dyed hair needs special care, so Cameron should switch to Aveda Color Conserve Shampoo and Conditioner. And with her new dark hair color, she can make her baby blues stand out even more with this Urban Decay liquid liner and Tarte’s Smokey Eye Palette.

Jessica’s Lingerie Shopping Spree

Jessica Simpson — who just started dating singer John Mayer and is in New York for Thursday night’s VMAs — made a quick trip to Linda’s Lingerie Store (do you think she liked their motto: “Love Hurts, Your Bra Shouldn’t”?) in SoHo yesterday afternoon. She browsed in the store for about a half hour with two girlfriends and a bodyguard before making her final selections — three pairs of ruffled Spoylt (a British “haute couture” lingerie company) boyshorts — or knickers as the Brits would say. The boyshorts retail for $85 each, and Jessica grabbed them in green Envy, pink Seduction, and a multi-colored print Innocence knicker. Guess she’s leaving Victoria’s Secret to little sis Ashlee, huh? – Tiffany McGee

You asked, We Found: Kelly MacDonald’s Emmy Dress

Kim from Nashville asks: “Who made Kelly MacDonald’s Emmy dress? Was it Elsie Katz Couture? Is she the same designer that Sharon Stone once said lived on a farm?”

The Emmy winner did wear an Elsie Katz Couture one-of-a-kind couture silk flapper dress. Elsie Katz Couture is named after designer Donna H. Baxter’s grandmother who believed in “girlie pink fluff and tiaras everyday.” And, yes, the designer lives in a big pink Victorian house with a picket fence and has tons of farm animals on an island in Puget Sound, off the coast of Washington State. Her line consists of handmade gowns, couture apparel, and unique jewels as well as a vast vintage collection. Sharon Stone, Paris Hilton, Jamie-Lynn Sigler, Jane Seymour and Lisa Rinna are just a few of the celebrities that have worn Baxter’s creations. Get The Emmy Look: Glam Clutches

Not everyone at Sunday Night’s award show was there to take home an Emmy, but that didn’t stop attendees like Eva Longoria and Portia de Rossi from clutching something fabulous. Eva elected a classic look with her all white party dress, but Portia went for a firey red satin bag that stood out against her Zac Posen dress. The good news is you don’t have to be a red carpet strutter to get their looks. These similar-but-affordable matches will help you dress up any nighttime outfit, whether it’s a dinner date or a night out with the girls. — Andrea DeSimone

Want a bag like Eva’s? Try this crunchy dip frame beauty from Cache, $34.

To get Portia’s sleek style, check out Aldo’s Willerine in red, $30.

How to Get a T-Shirt Like Erika’s

Talk about easy wardrobe choices. When Erika Christensen, who stars this fall on the new ABC drama Six Degrees, needs a cool t-shirt, she just picks from her brothers’ new line 8 Track Clothing as she did for her PEOPLE magazine photoshoot (left). According to Erika, it’s not pure nepotism that drives her choice: “They are so soft and comfy!” Twenty-year-old twins Dane and Brando Christensen have been designing their own clothing for about two years but just launched 8 Track this month. The shirts are available online for $25, and the signature boombox graphic is a nod to childhood days spent in the garage listening to their dad’s. For now, the t-shirts are limited edition with only 200 being produced in each color. But Erika has no worries that the line will keep expanding. “My brothers are phenomenally talented. They’re good at everything they do. And they’re adorable.”
