What Was She Thinking? Jessica Simpson at the Teen Choice Awards

Was Jessica Simpson so consumed with the stress of hosting an awards show that her ex-husband and his new girlfriend were both nominated for that she ignored her wardrobe? Jessica is known for being a clothes horse and an avid shopper, so we’re a little surprised at her lack-luster wardrobe on the show. From the see-through Jill Stuart lace shorts one-piece (left) to the unflattering tulip-skirted Miu Miu dress (middle), Jessica looked off her usual style standards. The satin bustier paired with baggy cargo pants and heels (right) veers into the inexplicable, leaving us scratching our heads. Still, Jessica did a good job handling awkward hosting duties. If only her outfits had as much grace.

Heels That Actually Feel Like Sneakers

In this week’s StyleWatch section of PEOPLE magazine, Mariah Carey’s stylist June Ambrose praises the Steve Madden shoes created for the “Adventures of Mimi” tour, saying “They crafted us a seven inch inch pump that felt like a sneaker.” Personally, I couldn’t imagine how a heel that high could be as comfy as my beloved Keds! But, last night I went out in my brand-new pair of Cole Haan heels with built-in Nike Air technology. I still had all of my usual wobbling on-uneven-sidewalk issues, but my feet didn’t hurt! The whole sole is thickly padded and even a little bouncy. They may not replace my sneakers for long days of shopping (I stand in awe of the future Ms. Cruise’s stamina) but I could definitely go out dancing without fear. — Melissa Liebling-Goldberg

Looks We Loved at the Teen Choice Awards

Bucking the trend of dressing down at teen-oriented awards shows, starlets from Ashley Olsen to Zooey Deschanel hit the red carpet at the Teen Choice Awards in sexy little evening dresses. The trend of the night was clear: high waisted, with full or bubble skirts, and daring necklines, ranging from the plunging, like Choice Music Breakout winner Rihanna’s Collection Bebe frock (left), to the intricate, like Choice TV Actress Drama winner Rachel Bilson’s Zac Posen stunner (right). Presenter Brittany Murphy (middle) also hit it big with her Sinha-Stanic mini-dress paired with slick patent heels, which is shaping up to be a major look for fall. Paired with soft makeup and hair, this look won across the (surf)board!

But guys still played it cool and comfortable on the red carpet– just look at Nick Lachey, who won the hotly contested Choice Red Carpet Fashion Icon (Male). He stuck to his signature look of relaxed jeans and an untucked buttondown. And the people have spoken and wouldn’t want it any other way!

Whose look did you love last night? Leave a comment and let us know!

Must-Buy: Time for Marc by Marc Jacobs Watches

I’ll admit it. I am a huge fan of Flavor of Love 2, but as much as I love watching Flav’s wacky antics, I never thought I would emulate his style. But I am totally smitten with these new Marc by Marc Jacobs watch necklaces! They are so much more feminine than just slinging a huge clock around your neck, and so much more charming than the average watch. My personal favorites are the green apple and the red star. If you’re bicoastal, wear two at a time! Or if you are still more of a traditionalist, check out the rest of the line– the charm bracelets, the wide patent bands, and the reptile bands are dead on for the season. As Flavor Flav says, “You know what time it is!” — Melissa Liebling-Goldberg

Katie Holmes is Steppin’ Out

We love seeing new moms get all glammed up again, but we were a little surprised to see Katie Holmes wearing those sky-high YSL pumps just to go shopping at Barneys. With those thick platforms and cone heels, the New Look shoes are clearly what’s in for Fall, but they are so high that they make us nervous that she’s headed for an actual fall! Is it just that she can wear such high heels when her slightly-shorter fiance isn’t around? Or does she really find them comfortable enough to shop in? Our sneaker-shod feet salute you!

Tell us: What do you think of Katie’s shoes? Would you wear heels this high?
