Meet the Designer: ViX’s Paula Hermanny

Imagine looking around the beach and thinking everyone’s bikinis were covering way too much skin! That’s what happened to Paula Hermanny, who left her native Brazil to attend college in San Diego. Horrified by the unstylish and “not fun” bikinis she found in the U.S., she started bringing back suits with her from Brazil for her and her friends, which quickly turned into a full-time business. In her first year selling her ViX bikinis, the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit featured 4 of her tiny two-pieces and the accolades haven’t stopped rolling in. Fans of ViX (named after her hometown in Brazil) include Jennifer Aniston, Eva Longoria, and Denise Richards. Even if you don’t have their flat abs, Hermanny promises that less is more. “If you wear a smaller bikini, you’ll look smaller! When you put on a suit that that’s too big, your butt looks bigger!” We’ll have to take her word on that. To see some of Paula’s design’s, click here.

Beyonce’s Got a Brand-New Bag

A. MacPherson/Splash News

Beyonce is in London right now to promote her new album, but we are way more interested in hearing about her gorgeous new purse! Always a style maven, she’s snagged the Beatrice from Zac Posen’s brand-spanking-new purse collection, which retails for $1450 at department store or on Neimanmarcus.com. If you can’t break the bank on that particular bag, here are a few others that remind us of Beyonce’s beauty.

Want to really splurge? Try the Cole Haan Small Tote from the Village Weave Collection, $425.

Want to splurge a little bit less? Try the Elliott Luca Drawstring Bag, $238.

Not looking to splurge at all? Try the Deux Lux Sack, $58.

Looking for a great deal? Try the Merona Pocket Hobo, $23.

New TV Obsession: Rockstar… Superlycra?

Forget Project Runway– the best outfits on reality tv are definitely on Rockstar Supernova. Tommy Lee and his Supernova bandmates have already admitted that they’re keeping Zayra in the competition mostly to see what she will do/wear next. But one of these weeks she’s got to go, and while I won’t miss her singing, I will miss the gold unitards, the Freddie Mercury capes, the top hats, the platform heels… She’s hands down the biggest spandex wearer on TV outside Dancing with the Stars. Where does she get her outfits — at Cher’s local Goodwill? – Julie Dam

Trend Worth Trying: Dark Nail Polish

Remember when Chanel debuted its coveted Vamp nail polish in 1994? The rich, velvety shade– so rock-star sexy!– finally convinced me, a neutral-polish gal, to dip my fingers into the dark side of polish. And it seemed women everywhere fell for a rainbow of velvety shades, too. Well, black and its dark sisters (plum, raspberry to burgundy) are baaack! We’ve already spotted Heidi Klum, Mischa Barton (left) and Jessica Simpson (right) flashing darkly-colored manicured fingertips, which the fashion bibles say will be hot, hot, hot against fall’s rich color palette. No surprise, Chanel’s limited-edition summer shade Black Satin is already sold out, but I’m loving their Rouge Noir hue, $17, and OPI’s Lincoln Park After Dark (Lindsay Lohan is reportedly a fan), $7.50, both of which offer plenty of dark, sexy attitude. — Julia Wang
